Yep.

I highly recommend County Highway, it's uneven in the best way possible.

Love love love this article. It’s like I’m reading Spy Magazine in 1989 again. I am so glad to know that Gary Fisketjon is editing again. And how great to read the name Morgan Entrekin again, too!

Thank you so much for reprinting your Fisketjon story here. I was one of the authors and editors fit to be tied when I heard about Gary’s sudden ejection, followed by Sonny’s death. Sometimes I think he died from mortification. His enemies came for the king, and they didn’t miss.

All our peers knew Gary’s dismissal was manufactured HR bullshit, who feigned interest in “protecting women!” when it was simply cover for a corporate change of black-heart.

I’m sure the publicist who filed the complaint soon found out no one gave a shit about her career or dignity, as soon as her one-time-use was expired.

Nor was the company interested in flaws and vices (drinking/smoking/being an ass) when it came to those in current favor.

It is same as it ever was. Protected. <MeToo> persecution tactics are for disingenuous coups when there’s already blood in the water.

These kind of antics in the industry have been repeated ad nauseum, as predictable as rain.

Meanwhile, working with and knowing Gary was a distinct pleasure and insight for everyone who had the chance. I’m so happy he got out of the snake pit and found a 4th act!

Great piece. I worked in publishing in NYC in the 90s. Boy has it changed.

I remember being stunned when I heard the news of Fisketjon's firing, so good to hear a bit more of the story. Very excited to see what comes of his new venture!

I guess we'll soon see the consequences of the brain drain of big 5 top editors...

We didn’t know how good we had with those Vintage Contemporaries. Anytime I see that that signature Vintage spine on a shelf I’ve got to pick it up. More independence in publishing is a very good thing.

Great article! I wondered what happened to Gary after editing so many of my favorite writers.
